Bipolar No More: The Recovery Journey

Welcome to my podcast. This is intended for individuals with Bipolar Disorder and/or Anxiety issues that are looking for ways to further their recovery process. Where ever you are in your recovery process is fine. This is an ongoing podcast that will air every Wednesday beginning on May 24, 2023. It will cover a variety of tools and examples that can be used to help achieve a healthy recovery: physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Please come with an open mind and know that everyone is on their place on this journey. I bring with me 22 years of living in recovery from Bipolar I Disorder. Many of my thoughts and ideas come from years of personal experience. May they be helpful to you as well. I’ve written three books over the past several decades that may be of interest to you. The first is: ”Bipolar No More: A Memoir of Hope and Recovery” (2008); ”Meet My Bipolar Brain” (2011) a Children’s book available in English and Spanish; and ”Covid-19- The Mental Health Connection” (2021). All are available through contacting me at my e-mail address at: michelleholtby@gmail.com. The most important thing any of us can do on a daily basis is to show up. Pray and set the tone for your day. If you need help, reach out to support groups, pray and/or journal. Then relax and do the best you can. Trust that God will do the rest! And if you like what you heard today, please feel free to pass it along to other’s you know. I look forward to having you join me each week
with a new and informative podcast.

We all have the oppertunity to say that we hear someone speak.  But how many of us choose to actively listen when someone speaks?  Communication between people would be so much more effective if we took the time to slow down, look at the person and concentrate on what the person is saying.  Happy listening!

Mental Health Awareness Week 2025

Wednesday Oct 15, 2025

Wednesday Oct 15, 2025

This week, my dad and I share our separate experiences of what my diagnosis was like from their viewpoint and mine.  While twenty five years have past, the memories of the tragic yet blessed day of May 24th, 2001 are in the distant past.  Each day is a reminder of how blessed we are for being able to maintain our mental, physical emotional and spiritual selves.  Happy listening!
I would like to thank my dad, David Holtby for contributing to this episode.  He has written several books titled:
Forty Seventh Star
Lest We forget: World War 1 and New Mexico

Welcome to the Christmas Season, 2025.  Perhaps you have already started your Christmas giving list and maybe even started finding gifts on sale.  If so, kudos to you.  Many of us, however, wait until after thanksgiving to start the yearly task of finding a most impossible gift to give to our loved ones.  we drive ourselves crazy often with overthinking things when in essence, all most of us really need is a real friend to talk to, and a compassionate person to lend an ear.  And all these things cost is your time.  Happy listening!

Time Equals $

Thursday Sep 11, 2025

Thursday Sep 11, 2025

We all have 24 hours in a day to use.  Are you using your time wisely or is it using you?  The best thing we can do with our time is to plan things.  If you want something to happen, only you have control of that.  Use a planner, put it in your phone, or write it on a post-it.  Make your own self accountable for what you want to see happen in your life.  Happy listening!

What's In a Meaning of a Word

Thursday Aug 28, 2025

Thursday Aug 28, 2025

Do you like word search puzzles?  These are my favorite kind of puzzles to do.  I enjoy them so much that I created a new game from words.  It's called "Word Within a Word".  I find this to be more challenging and makes my brain work harder.  So, it began with these 3 words: dream, balance and Cinderella.  Additional word choices have grown from these 3 words.  Maybe you will think up a few of your own.  And don't forget the yard sale.  This Saturday from 8:00-2:00.  Happy listening!

$14.95

Meet Abby, a six year old who has Bipolar I Disorder.  When I was very young, my parents took me to see a brain doctor (psychiatrist)  who told me I had a mental illness that affects the way my brain works.  He gave my parents my brain pills (psychiatric medications)  that I need to take everyday to stay healthy.   These pills are only for me and not to be shared.  They make me well but can make other people very sick.  They are like vitamins for my brain.  That is what I call them so my brain will grow up like me, healthy and strong.

Take this journey with Abby as she goes through school with her classmates as well as activities she does throughout the week.  This book is intended for families as well as classroom settings and is intended for those who have children with a mental illness especially Bipolar I Disorder.
